I have just updated my system to perform “drag’n’drop” and I was very surprised, that there is no way to copy a ‘clipping file’ to the clipboard. (Although some people told me there is - they probably copied just name of the clipping file.) One had to launch a “drag’n’dropable” application, drag the clipping there and then copy it. That’s why I created Clip2Clip, recent version of this application. This version lets you convert also clipboard to the clipping file.
• Usage:
• To copy contents of a clipping file to the clipboard simply drag the file over the icon of Clip3Clip and release the mouse button.
Note: If the icon of Clip3Clip doesn’t high light, you’ll need to rebuild your desktop file (holding down command and option keys during mac’s bootup). This is a matter of Finder.
The contents of the clipping will be copied to the clipboard.
• To create a clipping file holding contents of the clipboard launch Clip3Clip itself. One (or more) clipping file will be created on the desktop.
You may use this also to separate certain types of data in the clipboard (such as a PICT linked with a snd).

• Technical Information:
I used ResEdit to peek a clipping file. I found there a resource of type “drag” holding a list of clipping contents. The only thing is that the list is stuffed with a lots of zeroes that may contain some special attributes. I do not know what they are, so I omit them.
Clip3Clip also doesn’t take care about file’s type and creator, you may drag any file over it. It just looks for the “drag” resource and the related contents.
When getting contents of the clipboard, Clip3Clip uses its built-in list of data types and clipping files types. Because of this, it will not copy any data it doesn’t know. If you have an application that creates some extra kind of clippings (such as a spreadsheet one), you can make Clip3Clip know this kind of data. Use ResEdit to view resource ‘typ#’ ID 128 (a teplate is included). The first type specifies type of the data on the clipboard, the second tells Clip3Clip, what type should the clipping be of. If different types of data use same file type and they follow one another immediately, they all will be copied into the same clipping file (such as ‘TEXT’ and ‘styl’).
You can also send me set of the special clippings and I myself will add them to the list.
• Caution:
You may drag more than one file over Clip3Clip, all of them will be processed, but only the first occurrence of a data type will be remembered.
